Community Guidelines

The standard we hold

Every person on Slowletter deserves to be treated with basic respect. The anonymity of early letters is a feature designed to put words before appearances — not a licence to behave in ways you would be embarrassed by if identified. Write to others the way you would want to be written to.

1. Be honest

• Your profile and letters should represent who you genuinely are. Misrepresenting your age, gender, location, or intentions is a violation.
• Do not impersonate another person, public figure, or organisation.
• Do not create multiple accounts to circumvent a ban or restriction.
• Be upfront about the kind of connection you are seeking. Selecting a misleading intent to reach a different audience is not permitted.

2. Treat everyone with respect

• Harassment, threats, intimidation, and stalking are strictly prohibited and will result in a permanent ban.
• Do not send unsolicited sexual content or explicit material of any kind.
• Avoid language that demeans, degrades, or discriminates based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other characteristic.
• Passing on a letter is always okay. Retaliation for a pass — sending abusive follow-up letters, for example — is a violation.

3. Keep it safe

• Do not share content that incites violence, promotes self-harm, or endangers any person.
• Do not use Slowletter to solicit money, gifts, or financial information from other users. Romance scams and financial fraud will result in an immediate permanent ban and, where required, referral to authorities.
• Do not share links to malware, phishing sites, or any other content designed to harm other users’ devices or accounts.
• If you believe you are in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services. Slowletter cannot substitute for emergency response.

4. Protecting minors

Slowletter requires users to be at least 13 years old.

Any sexual content involving minors is a zero-tolerance violation. We will permanently ban accounts and report such material to the relevant authorities, including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and equivalent bodies in other jurisdictions, in compliance with applicable law.

Do not attempt to solicit, groom, or share personal contact information with anyone who indicates they may be a minor. Do not misrepresent your age or intentions to connect with younger users.

5. No spam or commercial use

• Do not send the same or substantially similar letters to many people. Slowletter is designed for genuine introductions, not mass outreach.
• Do not use Slowletter to promote products, services, or external platforms without our written permission.
• Do not recruit users to competing services or multi-level marketing schemes.

6. Respect intellectual property

• Only share content (text, images, audio) that you own or have the right to share.
• Do not infringe the copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights of others.

7. Reporting and enforcement

Every user has the ability to report a profile, letter, message, or connection. We review all reports and take action proportionate to the severity of the violation:

• Warning: for minor first violations.
• Temporary suspension: for repeated or moderate violations.
• Permanent ban: for severe violations, including harassment, fraud, CSAM, and impersonation.
• Legal referral: where required by law or to protect user safety.

If you think we made a mistake, you may appeal a decision by contacting support@slowletter.app. We will review appeals and respond within a reasonable timeframe.

8. Good-faith participation

These guidelines are a living document. The spirit behind them is simple: Slowletter works when people participate honestly and with care for the person on the other side of every letter. If you are not sure whether something crosses a line, it probably does.

We aim to be transparent about our enforcement decisions over time and may publish aggregate moderation data as the community grows.
